That Internet successfully defends Nominet claim

DPSA has successfully represented That Internet Ltd and its director Graeme Wingate in a libel claim brought against them by Nominet UK and its chief executive Lesley Cowley. The claim has now been discontinued by the Claimants. Mr Wingate said:

“I fought this claim because I was stating my opinion on a matter of public interest. This is a principle that I believe is worth fighting for. It is not pleasant being sued for libel by an organisation with deep pockets and I am grateful to David Price QC for offering me a conditional fee agreement that enabled me to defend myself. Nominet now say that the claim is a costly and unwelcome distraction. Perhaps they should have considered this before suing me.”
